Suzy’s Course: “I’ve always wanted to Paint…But”

This course successfully debuted in June 2022 at the Arts Building in Gibsons and was repeated there in January 2023.

The course will next be taught as a special offering workshop to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Gibsons School of the Arts. Their regular fee is discounted 25% and includes the required materials for the course! Learn the basic concepts and tools of painting…and start painting!

July 3-6, 2023 at High Beam Dreams in Gibsons

—Contact: gibsonsartschool.net for information  and registration.

Registration for Gibsons School of the Arts 2023 summer workshops opens on January 25th.

The 4 day workshop is designed for beginners who are intrigued by the idea of painting but don’t know how to begin. In a light-hearted, fun, supportive and safe environment, this course is designed to get you started painting.

We will:

address common myths and expectations that stop us from painting; explore how to use basic tools like brushes and paint; and explore concepts of shapes, value, colour and composition with simple explanations and then apply these principles with exercises.

By the end of the course you will have a completed at least one painting and will have what you need in order to continue painting, if you are so inclined.

Announcements for this course will appear here and on my Facebook page.

Art Crawl

The Sunshine Coast Art Crawl is an annual studio open house for artists from Langdale to Earls Cove. Over the 3 days in October, the Coast is transformed into one large interactive art show. It’s a journey of surprises, discoveries and fabulous fun and a wonderful opportunity to visit me in my home studio in Roberts Creek. During Art Crawl my space is shared by Diane Clark, displaying her exquisite jewelry, and award-winning contemporary textile artist Nell Burns.

Purple Banner Tours

Purple Banner Tours provide a year round opportunity to visit artists in their home studios. Look for the flying Purple Banners that mark studio locations all along the Sunshine Coast and/or check the Purple Banner website or the Purple Banner Art Map available on the ferries and in many local stores. I am a Purple Banner member, but please call ahead for an appointment to visit my studio.

See my paintings on permanent display at Sechelt Hospital

In Jan. 2018 I donated this painting to the Sechelt Hospital Foundation.

“Birds”  is 36 in. x 36 in., acrylic on canvas. It is now hanging in the new Ambulatory Care Unit of the Sechelt Hospital.

The painting is “Dedicated with Love to Syd Valentine”.

Also at Sechelt Hospital

“Rest Stop” is 30 in. x 20 in., acrylic on canvas. It was donated in 2020, and you can find it hanging in the hallway near the lab.
